Discernment within the Christian context is defined as the perception in the absence of judgment with a view to obtaining spiritual direction and understanding.
As children of the Highest, it is important that we recognize that we are not wrestling against flesh and blood. Understand that our battles are not with people, but with the unseen forces that exercise their influence over the behavior and emotions of humankind. Therefore, you must learn to pray for discernment daily.
Conflicts will occur in life but the ability to make sound judgment comes by learning how to discern between spirits. Often people are led by their emotions and not by what the Lord says. Don’t be lost in your feelings or in the feelings of others. Learn to understand the difference between God and Satan. Pray to discern the difference between when God is speaking to you and when the devil has infiltrated your thoughts. When you use your feeling as your guide in life you will get fooled repeatedly.
It baffles me how the devil can trick people into thinking they are winning when the truth is they are lost. For my nature lovers, you know that the life source of a tree is not in the leaves, but in the roots. That’s why Psalms 1 admonishes us to be like a tree planted by the rivers of water.
Well, what makes your spiritual roots any different? your roots are vital to your spiritual survival. When you can cut off your spiritual roots and throw them away as nothing, my friend you have only proven yourself to be void of discernment. You must praise God for your past and not just for the future. How did you make it to where you are today? And why are you not telling that side of the story? It is Now, either you believe what the word of God says, or you don’t. Either way, his word has already been established, so you and your feeling can carry on as you may.
The Bible calls the devil a deceiver, but you can stop him right in his tracks. The Bible tells us to resist the devil and he will flee. It is time to start resisting thoughts and ideology that are not based on truth. If you are wise on this journey you will reap the benefits and the rewards in the end.
Don’t be so distracted that you fail to get what the Lord is saying to you in this season. Part of discerning is having the ability to judge well. In 2 Chronicles 1: 11 God said to Solomon, “Since this is your heart’s desire and you have not asked for wealth, possessions or honor, nor for the death of your enemies, and since you have not asked for a long life but for wisdom and knowledge to govern my people over whom I have made you king.
Sound doctrine can save your life especially in these last and evil days. Stay encouraged and trust the process. God has your best interest at heart. If you are willing to learn then you will begin to live a fruitful life. My prayer is that God grants you all his richest blessings in 2018.
