DARE TO DREAM IN 2021

Yesterday was a momentous day. One I am grateful to have witnessed. Especially since I am a proud woman and mother of a daughter and granddaughter. My thoughts were running wild with possibilities, not only for me but them too. We have to “teach our daughters to worry less about fitting into glass slippers and more about shattering glass ceilings” (Melissa Marchonna). It reminded me that I need to keep setting an example by shattering my own glass. That I need to be the example for them. Keep striving, achieving and pushing towards my goals. I have to keep writing my own story. What about you? Are you writing your own story? Are you taking the first step and putting your 2021 plan into action? I sure hope so. Everyone experiences challenges and setbacks. Seems like especially last year. But I refuse to allow it to dictate my future. Because everyone can also experience growth and prosperity. I believe the best is yet to come. Not only for me, but you too! Dare To Dream!

There are so many life lessons I’ve learned from personal experience but from others too, including those who have significant impact on our history like Martin Luther King, Jr. In honoring him this week, I am also reminded of those lessons. Some of the lessons that have been most impactful on me include: the power of serving others, the power to stand up for what’s right, the power to keep faith and hope, the power to love all, the power of forgiveness and most importantly the power of possibilities. That all things are possible. But the greatest lesson from Martin Luther King, Jr. for me has been to dare to dream. When I was a child, I can vividly recall my teacher asking the students what we wanted to be when we grew up. A boy classmate would always say the president and if by chance a girl classmate stated the same, no one seemed to take it seriously. How remarkable is it, that little girls can now dare to dream to be the president too with no hesitation? Parents and teachers alike can confidently say, anyone can be anything they want to be. Again, all things are possible.

I know I will continue to dare to dream and make those dreams come to reality. I already hit the ground running in 2021 with a new signature loungewear collection (Shop All — The Staples Showroom). I intend to keep expanding my business. I’m determined to create generational wealth I can pass down to my granddaughter and so on. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want everything just handed to her. The struggles I’ve encountered in life, have pushed me. If you know my story, I have been employed since I was a teenager. I like my job, but it never gave me the fulfillment I yearned for. I knew I had so more more to offer the world. So about 12 years ago, I decided to take a leap of faith and followed my passion in fashion. I changed my story and continue to rewrite it. I hustle hard, so my grandbaby can have every opportunity to reach her full potential. I want her to know with confidence, all her dreams are reachable!

For me, I will continue to raise the bar for myself and set my expectations higher. But I intend to also motivate other women to do the same. There is tremendous value in women supporting other women. Not just for the lives of the women you touch, but for your own inner recognition of self-love, self-satisfaction and self-worth. That’s why I will continue blogging as long and as often as I can, in hopes I uplift or empower even one woman with my message. My voice matters, but so does yours. Know I’d love to hear your thoughts too. Leave a comment. Start a dialogue. How are you supporting other women? And check out my new “Women Supporting Women” signature tee too!
