The Power Of Sisterhood

Ladies, from the beginning of time women, have always shared a sense of connection with each other. This connection is as old as time and has been beautifully illustrated throughout the scriptures.

To understand the power of sisterhood you have to understand the purpose and power of friendship.  The true purpose of friendships is to shape your character and help you to become what God created you to be.

There is no true sisterhood absent of friendship.  The friendship that I am referring to exceeds cultures and racial differences. It is not based on your financial wealth or lack thereof, because when sisters are friends the one that has plenty will hold down the one struggling. They are not jealous of one another because they see each other through the eyes of admiration.

True sisterhood means I will never abandon you, and if there are differences between us we will work to resolve them, correction in love is welcome because God has placed you in my life for a purpose and I won’t kill the friendship because to do so is to abort the purpose.

God has called you my sisters for greatness, but you will not get to where you need to go if you keep cutting off the wrong people.  Your sister’s prosperity; good job, happy marriage, promotion, house or car shouldn’t breed envy and jealousy in your heart.  Rather a real friend rejoices in each other’s happiness. The Bible in Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 reminds us that two are better than one; if either of them falls down, one can help the other up but pity anyone who falls down and has no one to help them up.

This past weekend I was blessed to see the newly released Marvel Movie “Black Panther”. This movie was encouraging and eye-opening on many levels. One of the many lessons I came away with is the love of sisterhood and the strength it possesses.   The King of Wakanda is protected by an all- women army called the Dora Milaje Their leader is General Okoye and together the general and her army fought to save the country they loved “Wakanda”.

Take this week to strengthen the bonds you have shared with the sisters in your life.  A Queen without her sisters is really a peasant with an over imaginative mind. The only place your going is in your imagination.  Show some love to your homegirls, the queens, the ladies in your life this week and let them know they are appreciated and needed. It is foolish to believe we can make it without one another.

The Bible said a friend will stick closer than a brother. If I can paraphrase the scripture I would tell you that a friend will stick closer than a sister. Your blood sister may not be all you desire but the Lord will send a sister-friend that will be all you need and more. We need sisters to share our secrets, have brunch with, spa dates, ladies night etc. Sisters to build us up, not tear us.

Remember it is together that we win. I met Meeka many years ago through a mutual friend and throughout the years we’ve been friends on Facebook. Through the love of God and her desire to see other women win she opened the door for me to voice my thoughts on her blog. Thank you again, Queen! Together we will win and together we will rise. Rise up Queens and let’s all sit on our thrones.

Please go out and watch “Black Panther” (we are not being paid to promote the movie) and let me know your thoughts after watching it.

  1. This paragraph sums up the true meaning of sisterhood. Usually this is the MAIN reason why there are not many genuine friendships. 💯💯💯
